the founder’s coach

1-on-1 coaching exclusively for growth-minded founders

After 25 years of building, scaling, and selling companies, I coach founders to gain clarity, step out of daily operations, and scale.

I know firsthand how hard it is to be stuck working in your business, and how lonely it can feel when everyone expects you to have all the answers. From designing a culture you and your team love, to building an A+ team that takes the day-to-day off your plate, to setting your vision, mission, and strategic plan, I’ve been in the seat you’re in. Now I want to help you build the company you deserve.

how I help

Two ways I work with founder-led companies

01

Founder Coaching

1 on 1 coaching focused on you – because when you get stuck, your business gets stuck. 90 minute breakthrough sessions where we go deep on the one or two most important things challenging you. Sometimes we will zoom out and focus on strategy, sometimes we will zoom in and work tactically, and every time it will be driven by what you need to get unstuck.

02

Strategic Planning

Quarterly meetings with founders and their leadership teams to work on the business, not in the business, and align on a 90-day plan that marches towards the long-term vision (and we’ll develop that too, if you don’t have one). Each quarterly session is an 8 hour, collaborative working session where exercises guide your leaders to share the biggest challenges, opportunities, fears, and hopes, so the most impactful 90-day goals surface for everyone to move the needle, aligned to your one-year priorities and long-term vision.

questions

Founder coaching and strategic planning FAQ

Who does Griff coach?

Griff coaches growth-minded founders who want to step out of daily operations and scale. He only works with a limited number of founders who are focused on culture, people, and process. This is typically companies doing between $3M and $30M in revenue that are starting to see cracks in their processes, leaving the owner overworked, stressed, and alone.

How is Griff different than every other business coach?

Most coaches have either never sat in the founder seat, or they see you once a quarter, collect a big check, and say “see you next quarter!” They work on the what and the why, but not the how. Griff focuses on strategy and long-term vision while diving into the details, tactics, and connections founders need to turn that strategy into action, get the results they want, and get out of the day-to-day noise.

What is a 90 minute breakthrough session?

It is 1 on 1 founder coaching focused on you. In each 90 minute breakthrough session Griff goes deep on the one or two most important things challenging you, because when you get stuck, your business gets stuck. Before each session, you'll do some pre-work to get clear on what matters most and find the root issue, so the session starts running. Griff uses stories from his own experience to help you think through problems and find your own solutions, and he never “shoulds on” leaders by telling them what to do.

How does quarterly strategic planning work?

Griff meets quarterly with founders and their leadership teams to work on the business, not in the business, and align on a 90-day plan that marches towards the long-term vision. If you don't have a long-term vision yet, you'll develop that too. Each quarterly session is an 8 hour, collaborative working session driven by exercises that guide your leaders to share the most important challenges, opportunities, fears, and hopes about the business, so the most impactful 90-day goals surface for everyone to move the needle while aligning toward your one-year priorities and long-term vision.

What does founder coaching focus on?

I find that most issues are rooted in one of three things: culture, people, and/or process. While problems show up as sales issues, quality concerns, finance shortfalls, etc, the solution to the root problem is often making sure your core values, mission, and vision are defined and alive, you have the right people in the right seats with a hiring process you can repeat, and simple, documented ways of working so the business runs without you in every meeting.

What experience does Griff bring?

Eric 'Griff' Griffin has 25 years of starting and scaling companies, with multiple exits. He co-founded Mobile Outfitters and grew it to 1,500+ locations in 60 countries with $100M+ in cumulative revenue and a Best Places to Work award-winning culture, co-founded PAW5 and GSW Real Estate, and runs his companies on EOS (the Entrepreneurial Operating System). He has been an Inc. 5000 honoree 6 times, proudly serves on 2 non-profit and 2 corporate boards, is an EO member in Philadelphia, and leads the A+ Hiring and Scaling Down workshops.

Can I work with Griff remotely?

Yes. Griff welcomes virtual founder coaching, and breakthrough sessions and quarterly strategic planning work just as well over Zoom. Virtual speaking events and workshops are welcome too.

Where is Griff based?

Griff is based in Bryn Mawr, just outside of Philadelphia. He can travel to meet in person or work remotely via Zoom just as effectively.
