The bigger a business gets, the more it loses one of its best

The bigger a business gets, the more it loses one of its best advantages - and you can use that to your advantage if you're a small business. Here's how:

Big businesses have more money. More people. More brand recognition.

But being small gives you something they’d love to have back: Permission to be a little reckless.

You can test the strange marketing idea. Try the offer you’re not sure anyone will buy. Change your pricing next week. Launch something, realize it was a terrible idea, quietly kill it, and move on.

When a huge company makes a weird move, people notice. When you do it, most people aren’t paying enough attention yet.

That’s an advantage. As companies grow, every experiment gets more expensive. More customers are affected. More people need to approve it. More reputation is at risk.

When you’re small, you can move while everyone else is still scheduling the meeting.

The mistake is trying to behave like the big company before you actually are one.

If you’re the small guy, use your secret weapon of being able to take a risk.
