Your top performer may be destroying your culture.

Your top performer may be destroying your culture.

They break every rule. Ignore the values. But they make it rain, so you look the other way.

You think to yourself:

“Look at how much work they’re getting done. I can’t let them go simply because they don’t seem to fit in.”

But there’s a huge hidden cost that’s hard to measure until they’re no longer at your company.

All the time you spend thinking about the struggles you have with them.

All the time you spend working with other employees who don’t work well with your top producer.

All the cleanup everyone does because the employee likes to “do it my way.”

All the time after work spent thinking about how to manage them.

All the time spent in meetings arguing instead of moving forward.

Add all of that up, and it’s almost always more detrimental than even a top producer’s output.

You just don’t see it because the cost is spread across the organization.

It’s death by a thousand cuts.

And the second you give them a pass, you’ve told every other person on your team exactly what your core values are actually worth:

Nothing.

If you’ve watched this play out in your company, or you’re living it right now, I’d like to hear how you handled it.
